Norway hosts a major bitcoin speaker conference, complete with an unearthly rave performed on Lightning.
This is an editorial by Eric Dale, organizer of the upcoming Northern Lightning Conference and host of the Nordic Bitcoin Podcast.

Scandinavia may not be the first region that comes to mind when you think of Bitcoin, but tiny Norway has become “the largest bitcoin mining center in Europe.”
with less than 0.07% of the world’s populationthe Norwegians are outraged nearly 3% of the global Bitcoin hashratemostly thanks to cheap, stranded and renewable hydropower in the north.
And now Norway hosts the world’s “most bitcoin experience” (sic): Northern Lights 2023.
Clean Signal Conference
Northern Lights 2023 will be held in Bergen, Norway from March 17 to 19, from the 17th to the 19th of March, and the Norwegians go all out, it seems.
Everything is designed for and by Bitcoiners, from the keynotes, to the food, to the parties, to the merchandise. The merch will be limited to 21 numbered copies, of course. Our vision is to create an annual intimate experience, bringing bitcoin to a new Scandinavian city every year until hyperbitcoinization is achieved and beyond.

This first edition will be a three-day bitcoin conference in a historical setting among the dramatic landscapes and wooden harbors of Bergen, led by the greatest minds in bitcoin, with the opportunity to grab an orange pill from hundreds of coinless parties at a massive party held on the Lightning network.
Hodlonaut, Knut Svanholm and Peter Todd are just some of the great bitcoiners who will be joiningcovering topics such as monetization, Bitcoin acceptance, and Lightning innovation.
Focused on bringing Bitcoiners together and creating deep connections with minimal scene viewing, Northern Lightning also wants to provide the cleanest signal anywhere. Even DJs are Bitcoiners.
A flash-powered rave?
Even the DJs? Yes
Northern Lightning’s highlight will be one of the largest AFK Bitcoin launch events in the world: an all-night rave with hundreds of coinless coins set to use Lightning.
Headlined by Norway’s leading electronic acts including Karolinski, Matiago, Klysterik, Antibakke and Trym Søvdsnes, it is set to be a unique opportunity to stun.
Such a good line-up would fill any establishment. So what happens when 400 thirsty coinless people meet 200 Bitcoiners and they all need to use Lightning to buy beer?

Aiming to create an unforgettable real-world bitcoin experience for everyone, every year the Lightning rave is a perfect start. Party-goers will have the option to use Lightning when buying drinks, renting towels or buying merchandise, and even buy Bitcoins for cash when they plug in.
Everything is designed to offer a little less talk, a little more bitcoin action.
And as for the place, Smien Laksevåg Verft is the oldest ship pier in Bergen, recently converted into a nightclub opening directly onto the fjord, which will offer free welcome drinks as well as use of the sauna and barbecue all night long.
Not just for adults
Tales of raves may not appeal to the more family oriented, but Northern Lightning 2023 will have you and your little ones covered.
my own daughter Lykushka (who is nine) organizes a children’s corner and workshop, a place to teach young minds about Bitcoin while having a lot of fun. I love it when my kids make friends with other bitcoiners’ kids, they’re usually brilliant too.
Whether the event will make them think mum and dad are more or less crazy remains to be seen, but they will be welcomed every day until 10pm at Northern Lightning.
Almost sold out
Northern Lightning is less than two weeks away and passes are selling fast.
The keynote conference pass, including access to keynotes, workshops, dinners, meetings and parties, will be sold out this weekend. After that, only limited passes will be available, but the limited passes are pretty awesome and you won’t want to miss them.
