China warns there will ‘surely be a conflict’ if US doesn’t reduce tensions with Beijing – National

China’s foreign minister blamed the United States for rising tensions between Washington and Beijing and said that if the United States did not change course, no guardrails could prevent the derailment and that there would “surely have conflicts and confrontations”.

The United States is committed to repression and containment of China rather than competition, Foreign Minister Qin Gang tells reporters at a press conference in Beijing on the sidelines of an annual meeting of Parliament.

This misguided U.S. policy toward China is “a reckless gamble” with the core interests of the two peoples and even the future of mankind at stake, Qin said.

Relations between the two superpowers have been strained for years over a number of issues, including Taiwan, trade and Ukraine, but deteriorated after a controversy involving a balloon which the United States said was a balloon Chinese spy and shot last month.

Washington’s handling of the balloon incident created a diplomatic crisis that could have been avoided, Qin Gang told reporters on Tuesday.
