Fire hits Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh | Rohingya News

A massive fire ripped through a crowded Rohingya refugee camp in southern Bangladesh on Sunday, leaving thousands homeless, a fire official and the United Nations said.

No casualties were immediately reported at Balukhali camp in Cox’s Bazar district, said Emdadul Haque, a fire service official.

UNHCR Bangladesh said in a tweet that Rohingya refugee volunteers were responding to the fire with help from the agency and its partners. He provided no further details.

More than a million Rohingya refugees have fled Myanmar for several decades, including an estimated 740,000 who crossed the border from August 2017, when Myanmar’s military launched a brutal crackdown.

Conditions in Myanmar have worsened since a military coup in 2021, and attempts to remove them have failed.
