How to protect the high seas? | Climate crisis

From: Inside the story

The world’s oceans are threatened by issues ranging from overfishing to deep-sea mining.

International waters are the last wilderness on the planet.

But they are also a large, thriving ecosystem essential to all living things, providing half of the oxygen we breathe.

For the fifth time in 15 years, delegates from 193 UN member states gathered in New York.

They argue over how to formalize a high seas treaty to protect the depths of the oceans.

So, can a global treaty preserve them?
